Arts and Crafts

Oddly of anything that has lapsed a little in the first grade year has been organized crafts.  Clarity is a spontaneous crafter who is always felting or drawing or sculpting or sewing, but I have felt the time required for other homeschool activities cutting into our structured crafting time a little.  We have done little handwork to this point, mostly finger knitting, but I hope to incorporate more of that this winter.  I think that if I would learn how to knit Clarity would find that work enjoyable.
We try to do a wet on wet watercolor painting, either led with a story or a free painting, once a week.  Other crafts (wax modeling, felting, etc) we fit in when we can, especially if can fit into something we are learning about.  Drawing is also a large part of our language arts curriculum and something that she enjoys.
Clarity has a workshop in the garage for woodworking, but instead of doing led projects she is content right now to freely explore the tools and materials to build her own creations (many gracing the shelves of my garage).  I hope to do some multi-step projects with her this winter.
