Most of Clarity’s social studies at this point comes from fairy and folk tales from many different cultures. The painting below came from a story called “Mud Pony” which is an American Indian folk tale (we also used this tale to introduce the letter H). In the story we talked about how the American Indians had to move their camps to follow the buffalo herds. We are fortunate in Fairbanks that in March we will be able to see the Eskimo Olympics, and I plan to use this event to introduce Alaska history and culture.
