Language Arts (Reading) 1st Quarter Work Sample: Lessons Are Where You Find Them

Clarity's reading is improving although she is not a super motivated reader at this point.  She does have moments of motivation, however, like wanting to read the tombstones at a pioneer cemetery we visited in Glenwood Springs, CO.

At home we have been doing a lot of review this quarter, going over those tricky vowels.  She is pretty proficient at consonant and short vowel sounds and now we are working on long vowel sounds and harder sight words.  Working through a couple of different workbooks (Handwriting Without Tears and Explode the Code) has helped reading simple words.  We are starting a reading group with a couple of other families this quarter, and hopefully adding a social aspect will help motivate Clarity.
